Destiny Florida Americas frist eco sustainable city
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) — Celebration. Harmony. Reunion. And now, Florida’s got a new city in the works: Destiny , envisioned to be Americas first eco-sustainable city.
The 41,000 acre Destiny, Florida will be in southeast Osceola County, right near Yeehaw Junction just west of where the turnpike, state road 60, and
US 441 all meet.
“Were running out of everything,” said former State Representative of Osceola County, Randy Johnson. He’s the chief operating officer for Destiny.
“Our electric system will be run by renewable resources. Our water system will not be tapped from the aquifer. We’ll re-use our grey water. We’re only going to build on disturbed land, land that’s already been touched in some way. And we’re going to save the rest.”
Destiny will be 65 square miles big and about a quarter million in population. Not “going” green, but “living” green. “The state can’t afford to buy all the environmentally sensitive land that we need to save for our kids and grandkids. We’ve got to incent good habits by developers. We think we can be the poster child for how Florida ought to grow in the future. We’re going to be the clean technology corridor for America. And oh by the way… Once we develop it, research it, manufacture it, distribute it, there are 19 million Floridians who need everything they’re selling, said Johnson.
Destiny will go up with a 50 year plan. Phase one breaks ground in 2011.
